We went to the Forest Lake July 4th Parade. It was everything a good small town parade should be. Red, white and blue was displayed everywhere. Flags were in good supply, candy was flying everywhere.
I love a good jingoistic Independance Day Parade. I love how people stand up and take their hats off when the color gaurd goes past. I love the people throwing candy to the kids. I love the antique cars, and the VFW's, a Kiwanis clubs. It is quintessential americana.

These photos are from a recent trip on a train that runs up and down the scenic St. Croix River. It begins in Osceola, and turns around near Marine on St. Croix.

I've taken the Osceola to Marine on St Croix train with my wife. We both enjoyed it and I hope to ride it again this summer. Duluth has two trains you can ride, the North Shore Scenic Railroad that goes up the North Shore to Two Harbors and the other, the Lake Superior and Mississippi Railroad, which starts in West Duluth and follows the St Louis River.
I preferred the LSMRR over the NSSRR because I found the St Louis River estuary to be much more interesting than the North Shore, probably because, while living in Duluth for 10 years, I saw enough of the North Shore between Duluth and Two Harbors to last me a lifetime. However, in all those years of living in Duluth, I never once traveled the St Louis River.
