Runaway Jury

I feel neutral about this movie. If you liked the book, and I mostly did, you'll probably like the movie. I thought Cusack, Hackman, and Hoffman put in work man like performances that won't garner them Academy Awards, but were fun to watch. The movie definitely follows the lead of the book, which is too say it's a good story, won't challenge you much, but will be a nice diversion.

Pity, such a great trio of actors. I wonder if no one's writing anything worthy lately, or they just pick so-so stuff. Sigh.

It seems that most of the movies I've seen this summer have been nothing more than nice diversions. Sigh. Even "The Eye" was a letdown. I hope "Return of the King" makes up for such a lackluster year!

I tend to think that the idea's and writing are there but bean counters and executives water it down for the audience, or at at least the audience of their perceptions. I think they do it both with the screen plays and with the editing. For instance in Runaway Jury, I feel pretty strongly some of Hoffman's performance must have been left in the editing room as it seemed incomplete in some ways.

I would prefer that movies and entertainment in general would be a lot less bland. This way you might have more people who hate the movie, but a whole lot less people who feel blah about the movie.
