Weird Discount

| | Comments (2) |

I was adding a book to my Amazon wish list. I noticed an indicator noting there as an "A9 Instant Reward Active". Cool, what's that? So I clicked and learned users of A9 can get Π / 2 % off their next order. What a goofy number to chose.

I think they want to develop some following among geeks who would be turned on by something expressed with a math formula. I can almost smell the air in the room where the marketing committee met to decide this.

Yeah, I figure the discount was meant to appeal to geeks, but it doesn't work, at least not for me.

Maybe if it was Πr² for a sufficiently large value of r, I would be finally buying a few more items off the wishlist.
