The 2005 Coffeethon ended last night at midnight. In the end, I tied for second with 9 cups of coffee.
The first four cups were delicious. Cups four through eight required a little discipline to finish. The 9th cup tasted fine but didn't agree with my stomach. I couldn't even consider another cup of coffee. I've definitely renewed my faith in the economic orthodoxy of diminishing returns. The marginal utility of the tenth cup of coffee was indeed quite small.
On the flip side I was quite certain I could leap tall buildings with a single bound and two feet seemed like a safe following distance while driving home at 85 miles per hour.

I don't quite understand the reasoning for winner selection, though. Since 5 oz of coffee contains 115 mg of caffeine, and 12 oz of Coke only 34 mg! 12 oz of The Dew still only has 55 mg. Seems it should be weighted a little based on your weapon of choice.
What's Blendy?
I have no idea what a blendy is. I wonder if it's one of those cold starbucks coffee milk conconctions? I'll email someone and get some clarification.
As far as comparing soda versus coffee, you're on the money caffeine wise, but I think you have to figure in the sugar rush and the wear and tear on the pancreas that comes with the soda.
I'd protest the results. The winner beat you by drinking coke, not coffee. Every caffiene addict knows a cup of coffee is much more potent than a can of coke. Stupid east german judge.
Just surfed in and found this really interesting place here. A lot of good stuff for everybody.
Go on like this and i will surely visit your site again sometime.
Ow. 9 cups of coffee. that is sick.
Two tips for next time:
eat bread. High quality bread from BreadSmith or Great harvest. That absorbs the coffee and protects your stomach. The bread seems to release the caffeine slowly, allowing you to stay awake for 36 hours straight.
also, take a multivitamin. This seems to help me when I abuse coffee. It takes the edge off while leaving me to enjoy the caffiene.
Wow. Reading that blog entry made my stomache
do a 180 and sort of gurgle a bit. Ouch.
These types of contests is where the news gets
their "Local man has exploding stomache during
coffee drinking contest, news at 11.." blurbs.
Be careful out there!
