Auction Questions

| |

All my Ebay auctions are going rather well, except I not received any bids. All I am getting is questions.

Q. Will I ship the Chia Head to Australia? If so how much?

A. Yes I will. It will cost you a lot more that it is worth.

Yes, that was a real question. I quoted shipping to Australia as $35.

The tension of having -0- bidders is getting to me.

Email me with your guess for the high bid for the Chia Head. If you are the closest I will reward you with your own piece of memorabilia from my basement.

Thanks for littering

As I was pulling into a coffee shop near my house early this week, I noticed a pair of teenage girls getting into their car next to the spot I was pulling into. Initially, there was nothing remarkable about them that would stick in my memory. That changed. The each opened their door and took a shining can of diet coke out of their car and set it in the parking lot. Then they closed their doors and slowly drove away. I picked up the cans and made eye contact and asked them, "Can I please throw these away for you?" They simply pretended to look through me and kept driving.

The best part of the story is that they were driving a Prius. I'm so glad they have real concern for the environment.

Daylight Savings Time

| |

A few weeks ago in the U.S. I had the yearly pleasure of losing an hour of sleep due to the switch to daylight saving time, which I would like to point out doesn't save any daylight.

Well what do you suppose happens to me tonight? I lose another hour of sleep. I'm in Europe at the moment and I get to celebrate daylight savings time yet again.

Who can I talk to about getting the two hours back in the fall?

Another Tea Pot Tempest

In the word of made up scandals and fake news, there was a small tizzy about the new representative from Minnesota, Keith Ellison. Keith Ellison swore his oath of office while holding his hand on the Koran last Thursday during his private swearing in ceremony. This caused the usual conservative gas bags to express their concern.

Ironically, it was Thomas Jefferson's Koran, as pointed out by this article from the Washington Post.

What is my position on this topic? I have no patience for religious extremists who exploit the idea of God for political gain -- yours, mine or theirs. When as a child my father explained to me that John F. Kennedy's catholicism was a campaign issue in 1960, I was shocked that religion could be a relevant topic in the presidential race. Fast forward to the year 2004 and there was real debate if John Kerry was quite catholic enough. I hope my children shake their head in disbelief when they hear me tell this dumb story.

Ironically, dig far enough in American religious landscape you will find those who think swearing an oath is probably wrong to start with.
