It's Labor Day weekend. The summer isn't entirely over yet, but this is the turning point leading towards Fall. The kids start school on Tuesday so the inflection point is much more pronounced that it used to be pre-kids.

What I Did Last Summer

The overwhelming theme of the last few months has been work. I try and not blog about work, so you'll have to use your imagination and fill in the details.

The secondary theme of the summer was house guests. Since some of the house guests read my blog, I'll let you leave my commentary to your imagination. They were all undemanding guests who showed a willingness to pitch in, which I dearly appreciate.

The third theme of the summer was growing up. Matthew and Elise are now seven and six respectively. They each are imaginative and precocious children. Matthew's love of story and ability to read amazes me. Elise's enthusiasm and bounce are off the charts. I mentioned just yesterday that she must imagine us living life in slow motion, unable to keep up with her. Both of them inspire me in their persistence and imagination. I love their company.

The fourth major theme of summer was travel. I can honestly say I enjoyed every trip I made and something magical happened on nearly every trip. At the same time I can't say that any trip left me with a soul satisfying sense of being totally relaxed and at peace with the universe.

This cute kid story was related to me recently. Grandma was saying goodbye to the children and told Matthew, "I won't see you again until next spring." Matthew responded with "I can wait." So characteristic.

Sorry I haven't blogged much this last year. I can't really explain the reasons why, I'm not sure I know myself. I still mean to write , I just haven't felt the inspiration the way I used to.
