Favorite toddler books
In the last couple of years I have spent a lot of time reading to my kids. I thought I would share some of my favorite books to read outloud. I have memorized some of them. Here they are in no special order.

I’ve got a copy of the 20th Century Children’s Book Treasury, too. It was such a trip reading some of my favorite little-kid stories again that I couldn’t resist.
My favorites at the read-to age were Curious George, Madeline, and an older title about the tooth fairy and how she used all the teeth she collected. If they’d let me, I think I’d like to read to my kids beyond that, too – into Little House, The Boxcar Children, etc.

I love the Curious George stories. I like the fact that he gets into real trouble, like being thrown into jail, but then his buddy, the man with the yellow hat, pants, and shirt saves him in the end. It’s sort of like Mayberry with Andy wearing the yellow hat and Barney being a lovable monkey. Babar is another old favorite. Seems like newer kids books don’t have quite the same level of realism, where the mother elephant dies a few pages into the book. I read somewhere the author originally had Babar stealing his fine suit, but toned it down. I can’t wait until my kids can sit still through a reading of Lord of the Rings. I’ll have to brush up on the Elvish thoughtimbu
